Singers' improved skills on show in Don Giovanni
Reviewed when appearing as Marie McArthur
"One of the delights of this production was the opportunity it afforded to judge the development of certain singers.
New Zealander Marie-Adele McArthur, for example, has made her career largely in the United States. Ten years ago, as a relative novice, she sang a delightfully pert Susanna in Figaro for the old Wellington City Opera. In 1997 she was equally engaging as Zerlina for the same company. Since then her voice has grown in strength and amplitude. She is now a splendid Donna Elvira: well in command of the technical challenges, possessed of a rich voice with just a hint of steel behind it, and blessed by a personality that communicates effortlessly across the footlights." -
